William Johnstone

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Davidson Companies

Mr. Johnstone joined D.A. Davidson & Co. as President in 2000. He was named President and CEO of Davidson Companies in 2004 and, in 2012, was elected Chairman while also serving as CEO. Before joining Davidson, he was Managing Partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, a law firm with offices around the world, and the same firm where he had begun his career as an attorney. Earlier, he was Vice Chairman of investment firm Dain Rauscher Inc. and President and CEO of Rauscher, Pierce & Refsnes Inc., a Dain Rauscher subsidiary.

A native Montanan, Mr. Johnstone earned a bachelor's degree with honors from Montana State University and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, again with honors.

Mr. Johnstone serves both as a board member and as Vice Chairman for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. He was appointed in 2013 by Montana's governor to serve as Co-Chairman for a statewide initiative created as a grassroots economic development initiative. Additionally, he currently serves, and has an extensive history of serving, on other boards of directors at the national, state and local levels.


 


Ian Davidson

Chairman Emeritus of Davidson Companies

Mr. Davidson joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1958 as the firm's third employee, with his father and a secretary/cashier. He was named President of what was then D.A. Davidson in 1968 and CEO and Chairman in 1970. He served in those roles until 2000, when he stepped back from day-to-day management. He served as Davidson Companies Chairman until 2012.

Previously, he worked for an investment firm in Utah and New York, was a finance instructor at the University of Montana and was an accounting officer in the U.S. Air Force. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Montana and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Davidson has been active in securities industry organizations, including the National Association of Securities Dealers, for which he was Chairman in 1995. He was Vice Chairman of the Pacific Exchange Inc. and a board member for the Securities Industry Association. His career has included extensive involvement with a number of civic and educational groups.


 


James Kerr

President of Davidson Companies

Mr. Kerr joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 2005. Before being named President of Davidson Companies in 2012, he served as President of the Individual Investor Group of D.A. Davidson & Co., and retains broad management oversight for that area.

He began his career in the securities industry in 1976 as an investment broker with Foster & Marshall. He joined what was then called Dain Bosworth in 1982, was appointed manager of that firm's Seattle office in 1986 and was later promoted to regional manager. He served as President of Ragen MacKenzie from 1999 until Wells Fargo purchased Ragen MacKenzie and he was named regional manager of Private Client Services for Wells Fargo-Ragen MacKenzie.

He serves on the boards of directors for Davidson Companies and Davidson Trust Co. He has been active in the community, including serving on the boards for the Seattle Aquarium and Seattle Police Association.


 


Andrew Crowell

President, Crowell, Weedon & Co., a Division of D.A. Davidson & Co.

Andrew Crowell, President of Crowell, Weedon & Co., a Division of D.A. Davidson & Co., became a director of the Corporation in August 2013 with the merger of D.A. Davidson & Co. and Crowell, Weedon & Co. Prior to his financial services career, which began in 1995 with Crowell Weedon, he was associated with Russ Reid Company, an advertising agency serving local and world-wide nonprofit organizations.

Mr. Crowell currently serves on the North American Advisory Board of the London School of Economics and Political Science and on the board of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Two Oak Investment Management, LLC and serves as the Board Chair of Five Acres Children's Aid Society in Altadena, CA. In addition, he is a member of the Sunset Club, California Club, Valley Hunt Club, California Vintage Wine Society, San Gabriel Valley Chapter of Y.P.O., and also serves on numerous educational and investment committees in his community.

Mr. Crowell is a native Californian who graduated from Stanford University and earned a post graduate degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Andrew and his wife, Keri, have a son, Thomas, and a daughter, Christine, and reside in Arcadia, California.


 


Douglas Woodcock

President of Equity Capital Markets of D.A. Davidson & Co.

Mr. Woodcock was a managing director and principal at Jensen Securities until it was acquired by D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1998. His extensive experience in the securities industry includes prior positions as vice president for Dean Witter during the 1980s and as a general partner of Dakota Partners, an investment partnership, from 1986 to 1990.

Mr. Woodcock serves on the Davidson Companies Executive Committee and the D.A. Davidson & Co. Management Council, and he has been a member of the Davidson Companies Board of Directors since 1999. He is a member of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Institutional Brokerage Committee. Originally from Canada, Mr. Woodcock is a graduate of University of Guelph in Ontario. He is a former member of the National Ski Team of Canada and remains active with ski organizations.


 


Samuel Doyle

President of Fixed Income Capital Markets of D.A. Davidson & Co. and of Davidson Fixed Income Management

Mr. Doyle joined Davidson Companies in 2005, when Davidson acquired Kirkpatrick, Pettis, Smith, Polian Inc. Mr. Doyle began his career at Drexel Burnham in New York, becoming that firm's head trader, and later joined Roosevelt Cross. He joined First of Denver in 1980 before it became First Interstate Bank of Denver, where he was head of Fixed Income Capital Markets. Mr. Doyle joined Kirkpatrick Pettis in 1991, was instrumental in opening its Denver office, and was head of KP's Fixed Income Capital Markets before the firm was acquired by Davidson.

He serves on the boards of directors for Davidson Companies and Davidson Fixed Income Management, Inc., and has been involved in industry associations.


 


Arthur Sims

President of Davidson Trust Co.

Mr. Sims joined Davidson Trust in September 2004 after previously serving as Director and President of Legg Mason Trust, fsb, in Baltimore, Maryland. He joined Legg Mason in 1992 to form and develop a trust business for the company. He previously served in various management positions with a number of financial institutions, accumulating more than 29 years in the trust industry during his career.

He is a graduate of the University of Texas and holds a law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He has been active in a variety of civic and educational organizations.


 


Andrew Davidson

President of Davidson Investment Advisors

Mr. Davidson was named President of the firm in 2004 after serving as Senior Vice President, Director of Client Services and Marketing for Davidson Investment Advisors and previously as one of the firm's portfolio managers. Mr. Davidson joined Davidson Investment Advisors in 1993 after working with Van Kaspar Advisors and Dean Witter Reynolds, both in California's Bay Area.

A graduate of the University of Montana, Mr. Davidson has served on several boards of directors for regional businesses and organizations.

He represents the third generation of the Davidson family to serve in a senior leadership role within Davidson Companies.


 


Thomas Nelson

Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Nelson joined Davidson Companies in 2001, after serving as President and Chief Financial Officer for Miller & Schroeder Financial, Inc., a Minneapolis investment banking firm that also focused on municipal bond underwriting.  Previously, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for E.W. Blanch Holdings, Inc., and has served as Chief Financial Officer for investment firm Dougherty Dawkins, Inc. in Minneapolis; and as a Certified Public Accountant for Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co., specializing in financial institutions.

Mr. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s of business administration, with an emphasis on accounting, both from the University of Minnesota.


 


Lawrence Martinez

Senior Vice President, Legal Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer

Mr. Martinez joined Davidson Companies in 2002. Previously, he was a Partner in the Corporate Practice Group with Dorsey & Whitney LLP. He began his career as an associate in the San Francisco office of law firm Brown & Wood, and he later served as the President, CEO and Director of Fireman’s Fund AgriBusiness, Inc., formerly Crop Growers Corp.

Mr. Martinez earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and is a graduate of the Stanford Law School.


 


Timothy Austin

Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Officer

Mr. Austin joined Davidson Companies in 2008 with more than 25 years of operational and technology management experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Davidson Companies he held management positions with Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis, where he was Vice President in Brokerage Technology, Project Management and Business Transformation. His career has also included management position in Brokerage Technology with Norwest Investment Services and SunGard Financial Systems in Minneapolis.   Mr. Austin serves on the D.A. Davidson & Co. Board of Directors.
