Summary: The server administrator’s role is to ensure the stability, security, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems that support core enterprise functions by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the server infrastructure, client/server applications and associated operating systems. This includes configuring/upgrading new/existing server implementations, and evaluation of current processes and procedures for management of server infrastructure. Proven interpersonal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Qualifications: (including specific Education and License requirements)
Desired Formal Education & Certifications
Minimum of Associate Degree in computer/technology or related field
Certification in Microsoft Server or VMWare beneficial i
Desired Knowledge & Experience
At least two years work experience in server management responsibilities
Strong understanding of Windows Operating Systems(2003, 2008), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Windows XP, Vista, Window 7 desktop operating systems
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware, storage hardware and associated network equipment
Familiarity with TCP/IP, network protocols, and operating system configuration
General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS
Familiarity with server virtualization infrastructure concepts and tools
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office tools – Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, OneNote
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Duties:
1. Provide timely response to address server and client-server application performance and/or availability issues.
2. Adherence to policies, procedures and standards in regards to configuration, management and maintenance of servers.
3. Perform periodic preventative maintenance procedures on servers such as service packs, firmware upgrades and hardware upgrades.
4. Ensure recovery of data files and server failures through proper backups and effective hardware management.
5. Maintain the security, stability reliability and availability of the server infrastructure through diligent server management practices.
6. Recommend, propose and execute additions and/or modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
7. Collaborate with all IT staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
8. Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
9. Lead, coordinate and participate in process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.
10. Participate as team member in storage capacity planning and in the development of long-term goals for enterprise storage.
11. In conjunction with business and department priorities and directives, conduct vendor and product research on software and systems products to address business needs.
