Summary:
The basic function of the database administrator position is to be responsible for supporting the MSSQL databases and ensuring their performance, availability, and security requiring in-depth skills in MSSQL database administration, SQL programming, relational database systems and structures, problem solving, and communication. Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company’s Microsoft SQL databases. Implements data models and database designs, data access including interface development and connectivity. Responsible for table maintenance codes; resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area and be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Must be flexible and be available on call and requires some weekend and none traditional hours when necessary.



Qualifications: (including specific Education and License requirements)

  • Degree in computer science, information systems, business technology and/or two to four years equivalent work experience.

  • At least two years experience with SQL Server 2000, 2005 or 2008; at least four years experience with SQL programming in TSQL; MSSQL certifications a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills in working with people at a variety of levels and departments; have flexibility to coordinate and adjust actions in relation to others’ actions.

  • Skills to compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data; observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources; enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form; develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish projects.

  • Provide guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process-related topics.


Duties:
    1.   Design and build relational databases for data storage or processing.

    2.   Develop strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition, and archive recovery.

    3.   Normalize, cleanse and maintain the database by inserting, updating, removing, and deleting data.

    4.   Evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization’s quality standards and ease of integration.

    5.   Review, evaluate, design, implement and maintain company databases.

    6.   Identify data sources, construct data decomposition diagrams, provide data flow diagrams and document the process.

    7.   Write code for database access, bidirectional interfaces, modifications, and constructions including stored procedures.

    8.   Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.

    9.   Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases.

    10.   Manage SQL Server security including the creation and maintaining of users and their appropriate access as well as data encryption.

    11.   Create and monitor replicated data for the use of transferring data between servers

    12.   Backup all databases and monitor those backups have occurred. Periodically test the backups for reliability.

    13.   Monitor all data loading processes and make any adjustments to verify the completion of each job.
