Brad Gevurtz
Managing Director, Head of Investment Banking

Brad Gevurtz is a Managing Director and the Head of Investment Banking for D.A. Davidson & Co. He is on the Board of Directors of the firm as well as its Management Committee and Public Equity Commitment Committee.   Prior to joining D.A. Davidson, Brad worked for over 20 years on Wall Street as a senior banker and in management roles at JP Morgan Chase, KeyBanc Capital Markets, and Broadview Int'l (now Jefferies Broadview).  He has significant experience in M&A, private placements, and public offerings, and has worked with clients such as Alltel, AT&T, Cadbury Schweppes, Computer Associates, Comsat, GE, IBM, Toyota, Verizon, and Xerox.  Brad is a former board member of Thinking Machines Corporation and a former member of the valuation committee of OVP Venture Partners.  He has spoken at industry conferences and has been quoted in numerous publications about corporate finance and M&A issues.  Brad has a B.A. with Distinction in Economics from Pomona College, a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, and an M.B.A. with Honors in Finance and Accounting from Columbia University, where he was elected President of the top academic honor society. Brad is based in Lake Oswego, OR.

David Dandel
Managing Director, Investment Banking

David Dandel  has significant experience providing mergers and acquisitions, recapitalization and restructuring advisory services to companies in a variety of industries.  Mr. Dandel joined Davidson in January of 2003 from US Bancorp Piper Jaffray’s Los Angeles office where he served as a senior mergers and acquisitions advisor to West Coast based middle market companies.  Prior to US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, Mr. Dandel was Vice President at McDonald Investments and worked at Carleton, McCreary, Holmes & Co,. a mergers and acquisitions boutique.   Mr. Dandel holds a B.A. from Davidson College and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Dandel was the Co-chair of the Pacific Northwest Growth Financing Conference that attracted over 300 attendees and 50 private equity firms and is active in Social Venture Partners.  Mr. Dandel was recognized in the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of the top 40 business professionals under 40 in Seattle in 2005.  In 2006, Mr. Dandel was named one of the top 40 investment bankers under 40 nationally by Investment Dealer’s Digest magazine.  David is based in Seattle, WA.

 

Norman Duffett
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Norm Duffett joined D.A. Davidson in April 2003, bringing over 20 years of project finance and investment banking experience. Prior to joining Davidson, Mr. Duffett was head of Orca Capital Corporation, a boutique investment banking firm specializing in private equity and M&A, which he co-founded in 1991. Before forming Orca, Norm was Regional Investment Banking Officer in the Capital Markets Group of Bank of America and served as head of corporate development with Schnitzer Group. Norm is on the Board of Directors of the Software Association of Oregon and the Stanford Business School Alumni Association of Oregon. Norm holds an M.B.A. from Stanford Business School and a bachelor's magna cum laude from Princeton University. Norm is based in Lake Oswego, OR.

Monte Giese
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Monte Giese joined D.A. Davidson in 1995. Previously, Monte worked at Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated in Baltimore. He has extensive experience with public and private offerings of debt and equity, mergers, acquisitions and advisory assignments in a variety of industries. In addition, Monte brings operations experience, having served as a senior executive of a manufacturing company. Monte graduated from Harvard University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in English and American Literature and Languages.  Monte is based in Great Falls, MT.

Rory McKinney
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Rory A. McKinney joined Davidson in 2007 as a Managing Director to focus on expanding the Financial Institutions Group throughout the Western United States. In this capacity, he is actively involved in structuring mergers and acquisitions, fairness opinions, divestitures and public and private offerings of debt and equity for financial companies. Prior to joining Davidson, Mr. McKinney ran the West Coast office of Hovde Financial, a nationally recognized investment banking firm focusing on financial institutions. In his career, he has advised on numerous transactions in excess of several billion dollars. Mr. McKinney holds an undergraduate degree from DePaul University where he was a three time varsity letter winner and two time team captain. Mr. McKinney continues to be active in Alumni affairs at DePaul. In addition, Mr. McKinney is currently involved in the Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington Banking Associations and Bank Director Conferences.  Mr. McKinney is also involved in Davidson’s Equity Capital Markets Green Team initiatives. He is based in Lake Oswego, Ore.

Mark Semmens
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Mark Semmens has extensive experience in providing investment banking services to corporate clients in connection with public offerings, private placements, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Mr. Semmens joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1985 and founded the firm’s investment banking department.  During the course of his career, he has served on the firm’s Management Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors. He has also served on various securities industry committees and on the board of directors of two private companies. Mr. Semmens is a graduate of Carroll College with B.A. degrees in Business Administration and Finance. He currently is a member of the Montana Board of Regents, which governs the eight public colleges and universities of the Montana University System, and Chairman of the Higher Education Student Assistance Corporation, a student loan funding organization. Mark is based in Great Falls, MT.

Daren Shaw
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Daren Shaw has served as the lead investment banker in a wide variety of transactions including public stock offerings, private placements, and mergers and acquisitions. He previously served as a member of D.A. Davidson's Management Committee, Commitment Committee and Board of Directors. Prior to joining D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1997, Daren was Managing Director at Pacific Crest Securities, a regional investment banking firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon. He is a former member of the NASD's business conduct committee for the Western region. He was also a manager in the private business advisory group at KPMG Peat Marwick, where he performed audit services and corporate advisory work. Daren graduated with a B.A. from Utah State University.  Daren is based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Michael Smith
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Mike Smith joined D.A. Davidson in September 2005 as Managing Director from Capital Run LLC, where he was Partner and one of the firm’s founding members.  Prior to Capital Run, Mr. Smith was Vice President at Volpe Brown Whelan & Company (Prudential Volpe Technology Group), where he helped establish its private equity placement group and was a member of the B2B Internet team focused on IPOs and secondaries.  Previously, he was a Vice President with Dain Rauscher Wessels in Seattle, where he was initially focused on providing investment banking services to retail/consumer companies and then transitioned to the private equity team.  Prior to joining DRW Mike was an associate at Pacific Crest Securities and an analyst at CSFB.  He received a B.A. in History and a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Brigham Young University.  Michael is based in Seattle, WA.

Thomas Turpin
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Tom Turpin is a Managing Director for D.A. Davidson & Co. Mr. Turpin’s career covers a broad range of merger and acquisition, corporate finance and senior management experience. Prior to joining Davidson in 2009, Mr. Turpin was a Managing Director at Allied Capital, a NYSE-listed private equity firm with $9 billion of assets under management. At Allied, Mr. Turpin was responsible for the origination of all senior debt, subordinated debt and equity capital investment in the Western United States. Prior to joining Allied Capital, Mr. Turpin was President & CEO of Vinton Studios, one of the premiere 3-D animation studios in the United States, and also served as President & CEO of a division of London-based Virgin Entertainment Group.  Mr. Turpin started his career in the Corporate Finance department of Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York, where he was involved in a large number of equity, debt and merger transactions. Tom serves on the Board of DJ Manufacturing, one of the largest manufacturers of military apparel in the United States. Mr. Turpin has a B.S. degree from Stanford University (Industrial Engineering/Computer Science) and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Tom is based in Los Angeles, CA.

Samuel Orme
Principal, Investment Banking

Sam Orme is a Principal in Investment Banking for D.A. Davidson & Co. Mr. Orme has extensive experience working on a variety of investment banking transactions including mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and private equity transactions. He has provided investment banking services for a broad range of privately held companies as well as public companies, including Volcom, Ask.com, Crocs, Deckers, Micrel, Online Resources, and The Ensign Group. Buyers of his clients have included Random House, Cargill, Corporate Express, and Mitsui, as well as numerous financial buyout groups. Mr. Orme has developed a wealth of contacts in the investment community and throughout the United States. Over his career, he has advised companies on mergers and acquisitions totaling over $4 billion in value. Prior to joining D.A. Davidson, Mr. Orme worked for Robertson Stephens M&A Group in San Francisco. Before Robertson, Mr. Orme was an accountant at Deloitte & Touche, where he advised Fortune 500 companies. He holds a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Economics from the University of Utah, David S. Eccles School of Business. Sam is based in Lake Oswego, OR.

Tyler Edwards
Vice President, Investment Banking

Tyler Edwards is a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division of D.A. Davidson & Co.  Tyler has over 10 years of investment banking and merger and acquisition transaction experience working primarily with companies in the telecommunications, software, technology, healthcare, consumer, manufacturing, industrial, and environmental industries.  Prior to joining Davidson, he worked in the Corporate Development group of Level 3 Communications in Denver, Colorado.  His primary responsibilities while there included merger and acquisition analysis, corporate strategy and marketing efforts across the company’s business units.   Tyler began his career as an analyst in the Investment Banking Group of A.G. Edwards in St. Louis, Missouri where he gained experience raising public and private equity for companies.  Tyler holds a B.S. in Business from the University of Montana and an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Tyler is based in Lake Oswego, OR.

Joseph Gulash
Vice President, Investment Banking

Joe Gulash joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 2007 and specializes in evaluating strategic alternatives for financials institutions including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, public and private equity and debt offerings, and other corporate finance activities.  Mr. Gulash focuses primarily on commercial banks based in the Western United States and is frequently a featured speaker on industry topics at banking events.  Prior to joining D.A. Davidson Mr. Gulash was a Vice President in the Los Angeles office of Hovde Financial, an investment banking firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and valuation for financial institutions.  Before Hovde Financial Mr. Gulash was a senior consultant at both PriceWaterhouseCoopers and IBM focusing on providing strategic and technology advisory services primarily to financial services companies.  Mr. Gulash holds a B.A. from the University of Arizona. Joe is based in Lake Oswego, OR.

Thomas Hayes
Vice President, Investment Banking

Tom Hayes is a Vice President in Investment Banking for D.A. Davidson & Co. In this capacity, he specializes in structuring mergers and acquisitions, evaluating strategic alternatives, and facilitating public and private offerings of equity and debt for clients in a variety of industries.  Prior to joining D.A. Davidson & Co. in 1999, Tom served as a financial analyst with D.A. Davidson & Co. through their summer internship program.  Tom also served as an intern for Senator Max Baucus.  He serves on the Davidson Honors College Advisory Board and the School of Business Administration’s Accounting & Finance Advisory Board, both at the University of Montana.  Tom graduated with high honors and a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and a minor in Economics from the University of Montana.  Tom is based in Great Falls, MT.

Tim Shimotakahara
Vice President, Investment Banking

Tim Shimotakahara is a Vice President in Investment Banking for D.A. Davidson & Co. Mr. Shimotakahara’s experience includes a variety of investment banking transactions, including public offerings, mergers and acquistions, private placements, and strategic advisory. In particular, Tim is focused on middle-market mergers and acquisitions transactions. Buyers of his clients include both strategic companies and private equity investors, and he has completed cross-border transactions.  Mr. Shimotakahara has advised companies in a broad range of industries and has deep experience with consumer products and manufacturing businesses. His clients have included Volcom, Pyramid Breweries, Jana’s Classics, F&A Cheese, O’Neil Printers, Esterline Corporation, Citation Corporation, Grakon, Serials Solutions, WebFeat, and Flow Solutions. In his career, he has completed numerous transactions with a total value of several billion dollars. Mr. Shimotakahara joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in 2002. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.  Tim is based in Seattle, WA.

Robert Wright
Vice President, Investment Banking

Rob Wright is a Vice President in Investment Banking for D.A. Davidson & Co.  He joined D.A. Davidson & Co. in July 2006 with significant transactional experience in providing financial advisory services to emerging growth companies.  Prior to joining D.A. Davidson, he spent approximately six years as an investment banker for Needham & Company in Menlo Park, CA.  During his career as an investment banker he has completed over 40 public equity, private placement, convertible debt and merger and acquisition transactions across a diverse set of industries.  Mr. Wright holds an M.B.A. from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University and an B.A. in Finance from Pacific Lutheran University.  Rob is based in Lake Oswego, OR.
